The U.S. Veterans Hospice Committee is proud to announce that it has renewed its membership in the National Coalition for Homeless Veterans.  The NCHV is dedicated to ending homelessness among veterans by shaping public policy, promoting collaboration, and building the capacity of service providers.
 

Our Mission

The U.S. Veterans Hospice Committee is committed to standing up for the nearly 22,000 veterans who have no home and who are suffering from a terminal illness.  The Committee's mission is to lobby Congress to do right by our heroes and fund the establishment of a national network of hospices dedicated to caring for our homeless and ailing heroes.

Below is a list of legislation currently under consideration by members of the 113th Congress.  To date no bill to specifically address the unique needs of homeless and terminally ill veterans has been introduced.

 

S.825 – Homeless Veterans Prevention Act of 2013

Includes as a homeless veteran, for purposes of eligibility for benefits through the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA), a veteran or veteran's family fleeing domestic or dating violence, sexual assault, stalking, or other dangerous or life-threatening conditions in the current housing situation, including where the health and safety of children are jeopardized, there is no other residence, and there is a lack of resources or support networks to obtain other permanent housing.

Vulnerable Veterans Housing Reform Act of 2013 - Amends the United States Housing Act of 1937 to exclude as family income for Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) housing assistance purposes any Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) payments made to veterans in need of regular aid and attendance for expenses related to such aid and attendance.

Homes for Heroes Act of 2013 - Amends the Department of Housing and Urban Development Act to establish in the Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) a Special Assistant for Veterans Affairs to: (1) ensure veterans fair access to HUD housing and homeless assistance programs, (2) coordinate all HUD programs and activities relating to veterans, and (3) serve as a HUD liaison with the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA).

Directs the Secretaries of HUD and VA to report annually to Congress with respect to veterans homelessness and housing assistance.

H.R.1339 - Palliative Care and Hospice Education and Training Act
